The Natural

"All I need are some tasty waves, a cool buzz, and I'm fine." - Jeff Spicoli
Hey Jamie:
Good luck on your new venture. Seems like a perfect fit both in terms of location and occupation. You're low key, patient, even tempered, funny and have a great way of relating to kids. I think you'll fit right in and will be a great teacher.
A cautionary tale: One of my best friends in high school was a guy named Pat. He was super laid back, really smart and funny as h**l. Kind of like you. Our football coach used to say of Pat, who was the quarterback, "nothing ever bothers that guy". After high school, we went our separate ways and I lost track of him.
Caught up with him a couple of years ago at a reunion. Turns out that he's now a macadamia nut plantation manager on the big island. According to him, his job is to "turn on a few sprinklers every now and then." He works Wednesday through Friday. The rest of the time he smokes a little ... , kicks back or surfs.....
Here's to hoping that you don't go totally native.
One last thing: who's gonna get the balls off the roof now?
"What Jefferson was saying was, Hey! You know, we left this England place 'cause it was bogus; so if we don't get some cool rules ourselves - pronto - we'll just be bogus too! Get it? " - Jeff Spicoli explaining why Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence.

Jamie,
We will all remember you and your very funny personality, you were kind and you always have fun projects for us to do. I was bored with science and now it is really cool and I have so much new knowledge that I didn't know I could get. You have been at Park for a long time and the first time I met you, was in first grade. Even then you were fun and helpful, you made my years at park school really fun and I will miss you. But have fun in Hawaii and you'll love it there and you will have so much fun, so bye bye Jamie and meet new people in Hawaii!
From,
Nicole Gamboa

Jamie we'll all miss you terribly because you have been here at park helping everybody since we were all in kindergarten. You have helped at park in many different ways you were a student teacher and helped people in the classroom, you were a yard duty and helped people at recess, and you helped people after school during supervised play. Now you're leaving and we'll all remember you and I hope you remember us too. Have an awesome time in Hawaii.
Matteo Liebman
Yay for you!

I hope you enjoy The heat and the sunshine
of Maui, and that you are able to surf more
than here when you have the time.
I hope you can come back and visit one day!

James and the Fish
"Aloha" James says to the fish.
"Glub Glub" the fish says.
James starts to swim up,
and up, and up, and up.
When he reaches the surface James breaths through his snorkel,
and starts the long dive back down
as he swims he thinks,
"I need a knew hobby".
Don't be a James, Keep your hobbies.

Good Luck in Hawaii, Jamie
I remember sometime this year you became a Student Teacher for Maggie's class. The best time I had with you was when Kate gave the whole class Kinder Surprises. You and I both got the moose thing amobobber. You told the class that you could only get them outside of the U.S., but then I told you that in San Fransisco at a store called Noe Hill Market you could get them. I have never actually been there, but that's what people have told me. So maybe you should have a couple of Kinder Eggs before you go to Hawaii.

Have a great surf in Hawaii! I hope you have a great time we will all miss you here. I also wish you good luck on your new adventure. If you get a chance (and you probably will) to surf make sure you rock those waves!

When You Leave I'll Be The One To Miss You The Most!
When you entered the room the very first day you arrived I knew you would be one of those who would be a kind, helpful person. And you were. Since first grade to now, you've been helping out. From all those "boo-boos" to a test, you've done it all. Then you decided to become a teacher. You gave us all those science lessons. You taught us some of that history, too. And when you made us wear those stuffy goggles, well, lets just say I'll never forget that. But, then you came back the next day with some news. Hawaii? I had thought that very day. So far away! Okay, so I admit I was really upset. I mean, Hawaii! Well, Hawaii is actually a nice place to live. All the surfing and stuff. It's paradise! We'll miss you so much! We have all our memories tucked tightly in our pockets. See you later for now Jamie. I' miss you the most. BYE AND HAVE FUN IN HAWAII!p.s. When you leave I'll be the one to miss you the most.

Hope you have great time in Maui and hope you ride some good waves. They have so good snack bars and they always have what you want. Keep in touch from Julian Chelsey
SHAVE ICE!
Melons
Ever since first grade have we been able to count on you for laughs for when we are down or even just needed some laughs. Like this year when we were cracking up about melons, and after that when we were in library and you were making some pretty funny jokes but seriously who could forget the PEA SOUP just thinking about it makes us laugh. For us, and speaking for everyone who has gotten to know you, we will miss you AND your hilarious personality. Have the best time in Hawaii, and remember to come back and visit.
~Haley Stephenson and Courtney Chang
Bye Jamie We Will Miss You!!!

Dear Jamie,
Everyone here will surely miss you. You are funny, nice, cool, and unique and everyone else thinks so to. Maui is an awesome place and its really cool you are getting a teaching job there because you love surfing and teaching Hawaii is a great place for both of those things. I have been to Maui pretty recently and it is quite different especially the language, so here is a link to the basics of Hawaiian: http://www.geocities.com/~olelo/hltableofcontents.html I hope it is useful to you. I know about this Hawaiian fish called a humuhumunukunukuāpuaʻa and its just plain fun to say! So if you hear a bunch of people saying it now you know its a fish. Yet again aloha.
Your friend,
Millie <3
Geico Gecko says hi!

Jamie, I have to say you are a pretty funny dude and I am speaking for everyone here. 5 is a lucky number (that is how many years you have been teaching here) I think I always think of good luck when I think of 5 even though my luck number is 8, oh well. I hope you see a lot of geckos in Hawaii. By the way, do you like geckos? I do! I think your teaching job in hawaii will rock! Good luck Jamie!
Never for get to have some Pea soup in Hawaii.
Have a blast,
Lily Mazur :)
Hawaii Rocks!

Aloha Jamie,
You will see some beautiful waterfalls in Hawaii! Send me pictures of amazing stuff you see. I hope you don't run into an erupting volcano!

I hope you get to surf a lot and I hope you catch some big waves.

Wow! I hope you really get to see these two famous flowers in Hawaii!

I hope you get to do the hula dance. Hula, hula! Isn't that kid cute!
I bet you are going to love all the things in Hawaii.

You will definitely get to see some pretty sites.

Hope you have a lot of fun. Bye!

Fun
Point I: I recommend you rent a Jet-ski, or even buy a Sea-Doo. I can go 3 feet above the water on a high jump. But I almost fell off when I tried to do a 360 off a medium jump. But the greatest danger isn't sharks, it is the motor. If you fall off, Never, Ever, EVER go to the back of the device. You could suffer serious injury, or even die. If you forget everything else you learn here, remember this one thing.
Have fun and be safe!!
Point II: Another way to have fun when you're on your own is to just plop down onto your own bed, sit back, and play thousands of games online or simply watch television informing you about hawaiian customs.
--Samuel Perlow
Have Fun & Come Back
Sincerely Daawood Nana
aloha jamie!!

Hi Jamie,
I will defiantly miss your sense of humor, like when Courtney, me, and Nicole were at library and we needed help and Courtney pointed out that your hair was unnaturally fluffy and you said you had to blow dry it and we bust out laughing and also after we calmed down the laughing you said, " Your just jealous because I am naturally hot." All us three were laughing for a long time. I am going to miss that GREAT sense humor! I will also miss how you would always put me in a good mood when I wasn't feeling the best. I think no I KNOW that you will be the best teacher in all of Maui!
I am not going to lie I am kind of jealous of you going to Hawaii so I have three things that you have to do while your there:
(The sentence goes with the picture)

An acrostic for you about you
We will miss you (HAVE FUN)
Bye Jamie!

We will all miss you here in Rooms 1 and 2, Jamie! But seriously. You're going to Maui! You are obviously going to have fun, but here is some info anyway.
Never, EVER go snorkeling and boogie boarding at the same time. My brother did and he got stung by a grumpy jelly.
Fancy golf courses have killer cheeseburgers.
Enjoy your new Hawaiian home, and don't forget to write to your pals here in good ol' Mill Valley!
Good luck, Marley Townsend
Miss you jamie

I remember the fun times that we had together, such as reading to us in first grade. You are a really kind guy and we will miss you so terribly. We are really sorry that you can not stay here another year. Please come and visit us once in a while. We really really love you, and we will always remember you and the great experiences we had with you. I will give you some advise on general things, such as what to wear.
1. Wear shorts every day, and do not wear pants, you'll get to hot in Hawaii.
2. Keep doing your surfing, but watch out for sharks.
3. Make sure you have fun!!
We love you and hope to see you again after you leave. We will really really miss you. Have a great time, enjoying the sun, and watching the pretty sunsets every night. I love you and will miss you soon. Keep reading! You are the best sub ever. Keep on having a a hundred and fifty percent happiness about everything. Keep on doing a great job teaching and having a great time in every subject. The best substitute teacher is you Jamie, and we will all miss you like crazy.
Love,
Alexandra Korngut

I WILL MISS YOU!!!!

ALOHA (AND GOOD-BYE) JAMIE!!!!! I will miss you're awesome self. I'm so sad that you're moving to Maui. But it will be fun there. You can go and catch some gnarly waves on the beach!! But be careful, you don't want to wipeout! (ha ha like the dude on the right)
Like I said before, i will miss you, but you will have a great time in Hawaii!

Have Fun!!!
Aloha! I hope that you have a lot of fun in Maui. When I went to Maui for my first time there was a GIANT chess board there, I'm sure it seemed much bigger than it actually was. But I was five at the time so give me a break! I hope that you have a lot of fun in Maui, I know I did! (at least, I'm pretty sure!) I remember when you were the aid for my class in first grade, when I sang you my rap song. I know that we both remember that very clearly. Here it is: "Yo yo yo, swear word swear word swear word!" You were a very good class aid, and you go through many changes during the school years. For me, when I came here I had a appendix, now I don't! For you, you came here american, and your leaving Hawaiian! Once again have great time in Hawaii!
From, Andy Strike

Hey Jamie, I will really miss you being here to help us all out, and to brighten up our school days all the time. I loved taking pictures with you for earth day, and how you gave us "A prize" for doing it. You were here for almost our whole park school experience, and because of you, it was and will be awesome for the rest of the year... just not as awesome! I hope you have fun in Maui, and I also hope that you will tell me what it's like in Hawaii, because I have never been there. I really want to go though! Put one foot in front of the other

After a day with the kids, Jamie fondly remembers his Mill Valley days.
Okay, sitting here this morning with my coffee -- 5:30 and still dark -- it's time to put pen to paper. I'm really going to miss you.
For five years I've always been able to count on you for a solid dose of dry wit and perspective. You're a pull-yourself-up-the-the bootstraps kind of guy, and I appreciate that! I'm happy that you chose to pursue your teaching credential, because I think that you're a gifted teacher, and you get where kids are coming from. Maybe that's because it wasn't so long ago for you; I still laugh when you say that our social studies book is the same one you used in 5th grade!

Now that I've ribbed you for being a youngin', I want to say that I think you're really smart and brave to follow your passion. Sometimes you get an opportunity to do what you really love, like surfing, and build a life around it. A lot of people glimpse the path, but are too afraid to take it. I think living on the beach in Hawaii fits the bill.
My advice for the future? So glad you asked! Be nice to people, stay out of debt, work hard when you have to work, and play hard when you get to play.
Much love and thanks for everything,
Maggie
